"The Purpose of Newlands Academy is to equip students with the skills and the citizenship values to ensure successful transition to adult life"

Headteacher's Welcome

Dear Parent/Carer,

It is a great privilege and honor to welcome you to Newlands Academy.

Newlands Academy is a special school and is proud to be part of the Academies Enterprise Trust (AET), one of the largest multi-academy trusts in England. It is a secondary school for boys aged 11 to 16 with social, emotional and mental health needs.

Our main goal is to ensure that every student is provided the highest quality of education possible in a safe, supportive and caring learning environment. Working together as a team with our staff and parents, we are committed to helping each student achieve their very best. At Newlands we have high expectations for all our students, learning is our core purpose and we provide all our students with a bespoke and relevant academic curriculum that is individualised to meet each student’s needs. We are dedicated to providing opportunities for all students to develop a range of life skills and moral values that enable them to better their life chances.

Please do come and visit us to see for yourself that we are a caring and supportive  environment that has strong beliefs that all of us can learn and be successful.

I look forward to meeting you,

Maria Rodrigues

Newlands Academy

“ The school is a safe and supportive place. Learning time is used well to improve literacy and numeracy skills, together with the social and emotional aspects of learning. Pupils benefit from a wide range of subjects, including enrichment activities to develop their interests and skills in preparation for when they leave school.”

Visitor Comments

I had a wonderful visit to Newlands, I was so impressed with the school and how the staff dealt with difficult situations.  After sharing Jimmy’s story the young people were very compassionate and one or two of them came to speak with me afterwards to say they were sorry for my loss.  Clearly the young people of Newlands Academy were very interested in helping us keep Jimmy’s legacy alive by helping us work for peace.  It was a privilege and a pleasure to be invited in to your school and would like to say a very special thank you to all the young people who I hope we work with more in the future.

"I have been to schools and organisations before but never have I been so impressed/won over by the general atmosphere of a place. [Newlands Academy] is highly conducive not only to teaching, but to learning as well. I spent time at the reception, in lessons, and in the staff room.

I left your school that day convinced beyond any shadow of doubt that teaching in an [SEMH] school was the right decision to make."
