Enrichment



Due to the varied and complex needs of our students, Newlands Academy ensures that all students are given opportunities to experience a wide range of enrichment activities that enable students to develop cognitive and practical as well as social and emotional skills. Most students undertake three enrichment activities per week. 


These activities give students the opportunity to work with different students and staff in both formal and informal learning learning environments.


The range of activities on offer is dependent on the needs and interests of the current cohort of students as well as the skills and experience of the current staff team (as is established by yearly staff skills audits). For 2015-16 the following activities have been offered:

Preparation For Life


In order to ensure a ‘successful transition to adult life’ Year 11 students are offered a comprehensive package of workshops, sessions, educational visits and work placements to prepare them for life after Newlands. These activities cover the following key areas:



  • work readiness (e.g .CV writing and interview preparation)

  • work experience (students will be offered a range of placements throughout the year)

  • life skills development

  • personal, social & health education
